About the mosque

The mosque is located in the city of na Chui in the extreme south of Brazil, on the border with Uruguay. The construction started in 2007 and is nearing completion.

"Its facilities will not only be a place of prayer, but also a meeting place to teach Islam and link other believers," he remarked, "including Catholics or other religious congregations. It will be an open mosque," he assured.

One of the main features of the mosque is the half-egg-shaped dome that protrudes from the roof and has a height of 19 meters. It also consists of a prayer hall in which is the mihrab , a minaret (tower from which the faithful are called to prayer) and a fountain for ablutions or purifications.

The mosque's main hall has an area of 520 square meters and the building has dozens of doors, each 4.5 meters high and weighing 250 kilograms, and is set on an entire city block, with parking spaces for vehicles.
